Mobile Recharge Commission & Instant Discount: How It Works
29 October 2026 · 5 min read
Every time a prepaid number is recharged, the telecom operator pays a small commission to whoever processed it. Most recharge apps keep that, or return a slice weeks later as points. An instant discount hands it to you at the moment you pay.
What is mobile recharge commission?
Mobile recharge commission is the share of the operator's payout that a recharge platform passes on to the person doing the recharge. It exists because operators want recharges to happen through many channels — shops, apps and wallets — and they pay for that reach.
The percentage is set per operator and changes from time to time. It is usually a fraction of a percent to a few percent of the recharge value, which is why one flat figure for every network is never accurate.
Instant discount vs cashback
With cashback you pay the full amount and wait for a credit later, often with conditions. With an instant discount the saving is already inside the amount you pay: you are charged the reduced price and the recharge is sent at full value.
- Nothing to claim and nothing to wait for
- The exact amount is visible before you confirm
- A failed recharge earns no discount and the money returns to your wallet
A worked example
Take a ₹299 recharge on a network that currently carries a ₹2 discount. You pay ₹297 from your wallet and the number receives the full ₹299 plan. These figures are illustrative — the live discount for your operator is shown on the recharge form at the moment you pay.
How a shop turns it into margin
A mobile or general store that recharges for customers collects the usual amount — ₹299 in the example — and pays ₹297 from its wallet. The ₹2 difference is the shop's margin on a recharge it was already doing, with no extra step.
No separate shop registration is needed to use recharge. Any signed-in account can recharge any number from its wallet.
What to check before you recharge
- The mobile number — a completed recharge cannot be reversed
- The detected network and circle on the form
- The live discount shown for that network
- Your wallet balance covers the discounted amount
Frequently asked questions
Is the instant discount the same on every network?
No. It differs by operator and changes over time, so the figure shown on the recharge form at the moment you pay is the one that applies.
Is there a processing fee on mobile recharge?
No additional processing fee is charged on mobile and DTH recharge under the current flow. Some utility billers that pay no commission may show a small flat fee on screen before payment.
When do I get the discount?
Immediately — it is applied to the amount you pay, not credited afterwards.
